Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend Discuss The Who's Future
Roger Daltrey, the 81-year-old lead singer of The Who, revealed during a concert at London's Royal Albert Hall that he is going blind, adding to his previous announcement of going deaf. Despite these health challenges, Daltrey expressed relief that he still has his voice, jokingly referencing the character Tommy from The Who's 1969 rock opera who is deaf, mute, and blind. His bandmate, Pete Townshend, also shared his own age-related health issues, having recently undergone knee replacement surgery. Both musicians acknowledged the impact of aging on their performances, with Daltrey stepping down from curating the Teenage Cancer Trust concerts, a role he held since 2000, while remaining an honorary patron. Despite these challenges, The Who continues to perform and support charitable events, although discussions about the band's future continue as they consider retirement after a career spanning over six decades.
