Saints Re-Sign Dekkers, Prep for Preseason Opener

The New Orleans Saints have re-signed quarterback Hunter Dekkers just days after waiving him to make room for punter Kai Kroeger, as the team prepares for its preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. Dekkers, an undrafted free agent, will compete for a backup quarterback spot behind Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener, and second-round pick Tyler Shough. The Saints released punter Matthew Hayball, who started all 17 games last season, narrowing the punter competition to James Burnip and Kai Kroeger. This will be the fourth consecutive year the Saints field a different starting punter. The team is currently holding training camp at UC Irvine in California. Head coach Kellen Moore has yet to announce the starting quarterback for the preseason game.
