New York Provides $350 Million Child Tax Credit

New York Governor Kathy Hochul has announced $350 million in supplemental payments for low to moderate-income families through the Empire State Child Credit program. More than one million families will receive checks of up to $330 per child without needing to apply, with payments beginning in early August. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on working families, especially as they prepare for back-to-school expenses. The program has been expanded to include children under four years old, benefiting an additional 600,000 children. Hochul emphasized the importance of supporting families amid rising costs of living and child care. The payments will be based on families' 2023 tax returns, specifically for those who received an Empire State Child Credit of at least $100.
