Fugitive with 30 Sexual Assault Warrants Extradited from Canada to Texas

Juan Pablo Acosta, 45, who fled Texas while on bond in 2021, was extradited from Canada and booked into the Hays County Jail on Oct. 29 after being arrested by Canadian authorities in June on unrelated charges. Acosta was initially arrested in July 2021 on two counts of second-degree felony sexual assault and a bond forfeiture for discharging a firearm, and he posted $103,500 bail before disappearing. A Buda Police Department investigation in November 2021 led to roughly 30 sexual assault warrants being issued for Acosta, prompting Hays County’s Special Services Division to begin a fugitive search. Investigators located him living in Toronto, but his extradition required approval from U.S., Mexican and Canadian federal authorities; Hays County worked with the U.S. Marshals Service and the Hays County District Attorney’s Office to secure that approval. He now faces the Texas charges while held in Hays County Jail.
