Logitech Confirms Most Webcams Work on Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 supports webcams for its new GameChat feature, allowing players to video chat and see each other's faces within games, but compatibility has been inconsistent and confusing for users and manufacturers alike. Logitech is the first major webcam maker to confirm that nearly all its webcams work with the Switch 2, except for the high-end Brio 4K, which is not compatible due to its Windows Hello security features. Other manufacturers like Elgato and Ugreen have identified that the Switch 2 requires webcams to meet specific technical criteria—such as avoiding the HID protocol, supporting isochronous transfer mode, and excluding unsupported low frame rate settings—which has led to some webcams being incompatible. Firmware updates are being deployed by some companies to enable previously incompatible models to work, with Elgato adding a low-resolution 480p mode to address the Switch 2's apparent limitation to low-resolution video for multiple facecams on screen. Nintendo has yet to provide official specifications or a comprehensive list of compatible third-party webcams, leaving users and manufacturers to experiment and crowdsource compatibility information. While the Switch 2 sells its own cameras, many users seek to use older or alternative webcams to avoid additional costs, and Logitech's broad compatibility announcement significantly eases this challenge.
