Multiple Shootings Across U.S., Canada Leave One Dead

Multiple shootings were reported this week in Buffalo, New York; Toledo, Ohio; Phoenix, Arizona; Georgetown County, South Carolina; and Halton (Georgetown, Ontario), leaving several people injured and one person dead. In Buffalo, a fight on Lathrop Street near Broadway around 3 a.m. left two people shot and taken to Erie County Medical Center; one is in critical condition and the other is stable. In Toledo, two adult men were found with serious gunshot injuries at the Bottom Line bar on Starr Avenue around 2:40 a.m. and were hospitalized; police have released no suspect information. In Phoenix, two adults were found with at least one gunshot wound near 91st Avenue and Indian School Road shortly after 5 p.m. and were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. In Georgetown County, deputies arrested Derrick Lamont Bright Jr., will serve warrants on Shiameek Lajuan Alston in the Oct. 4 Andrews shooting that killed 21-year-old Jonathan Cooper and injured another man, and are seeking a third suspect, Jimmy Sandrilura Smith, who is considered armed and dangerous. Halton police said a Wednesday-night shooting near Tenth Line and River Drive left two people with serious but non-life-threatening injuries who later arrived at a hospital; investigators are seeking dashcam footage and tips.
