Students Showcase Innovations at UWRF, Srinivas University Competitions
At the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, students Jake Regan and Luke Heggestad showcased their entrepreneurial skills during the Innovation Challenge, where they presented their business ideas to a panel of judges. Regan won first place and a $2,000 prize for his 'Screen Buddy' invention, designed to facilitate the carrying of window screens, while Heggestad earned second place with his 'GeoSki' concept, aimed at improving the security of ski equipment through geotags. Regan's business idea stemmed from his experiences as a window cleaner, while Heggestad conducted extensive research, including interviews with industry professionals in Colorado. As the first-place winner, Regan will advance to compete in the WiSys Big Idea Tournament at UW-Milwaukee on April 25. The event underscores the growing emphasis on entrepreneurship in educational settings, equipping students with practical skills and experiences. Both students' presentations highlighted the importance of innovation and addressing real-world problems through their designs.
