Dearborn Man Critically Injured in Intentional Vehicle Assault

A Dearborn man, Haider Alfadawi, is in critical condition after being intentionally struck by an SUV on Michigan Avenue, in an incident police classified as "an act of vehicular assault." The 38-year-old driver, Murtadha Jabbar Alizairij, crossed into oncoming traffic and accelerated into Alfadawi, then fled the scene on foot before surrendering to police. Investigations revealed the victim and suspect had a 20-year acquaintance, with the assault linked to a business dispute and preceded by Alfadawi expressing safety concerns to police. Videos show Alfadawi pleading for help shortly before the incident, but police responses are under internal review amid community concern. Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin and Mayor Abdullah Hammoud emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and respectful treatment in the investigation. Formal charges against the suspect are pending from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
